Goats, chickens, sheep, alpacas, you name it – TCF probably has a 4H project for you! The Community Farm is one of the many available project clubs of the Jeffco 4-H Program. Please reach out if you are interested in joining 4H

What is 4-H?
The focus of all 4-H programs is the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens. Jefferson County runs their 4-H youth development program through the Jefferson County Extension and Colorado State University. All 4-H members must be enrolled in at least one project. There are a wide variety of projects ranging from Consumer
Sciences to Livestock and Horse Projects ( link of these programs: https://jeffco.extension.colostate.edu/4-h/). When your child chooses a project, through self-directed learning as well as support from their club, they will learn everything there is to know about that topic.

All 4-H Projects consist of four components including:

  1. Learning Experiences of 6 or more sequential learning experiences of 20-60 minutes in length totaling 2 hours or more.
  2. Community Service
  3. Leadership
  4. Exhibition of Project Work.
Combining all these components allows members to reach the projects full potential and get the most out of it to have
    the greatest experiences possible.
What are the 4H benefits for youth?
4H provides many benefits to youth including:
  5. Leadership Skills
  6. Confidence
  7. Knowledge of Agriculture
  8. Healthy Living
  9. Work Ethic
  10. Community Service
  11. Lifelong Friendships
  12. Scholarships and Educational Opportunities

FAQ

  1. Is this The Community Farm 4H Club right for my family?
The Community Farm’s has a slightly different approach such that we understand the balance of the many activities our kids are involved with throughout the year. We meet only a few times a year and the expectation is that families embrace the self-directed 4H projects on their own with some support and guidance from the club as needed. There are a wide variety of clubs available in Jefferson County based on location and specialization. Click here (https://jeffco.extension.colostate.edu/4-h/enroll/#find) for a list of these clubs to find the best fit. Each club may meet regularly throughout the year or only part of the year, depending on the project and the interests of both leaders and members.
  2. What is the cost to join?
The cost is only $45 for the year which covers October 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021 and members are eligible to show at Jeffco Fair and Colorado State Fair. There may be other costs associated with the selected projects.
