The TCF Horse Program is the backbone of The Community Farm.

The Community Farm (TCF) Horse program provides a soft landing and a second chance for horses that may be unsellable or difficult to adopt, but still have an important role to play. These horses live active, meaningful lives while helping others learn, grow, and connect.
Some arrive through rescue situations. Others are donated or come to us when their previous path no longer fits. Regardless of where they come from, every horse at TCF has a purpose—within the herd and within our programs.
Our Equine Philosophy
We believe horses should be allowed to be horses.
Our herd lives together, spends time outdoors, and is encouraged to socialize, move, and interact naturally. We pay attention to who each horse is, not just what they’ve been through, focusing on their strengths rather than their limitations.

Each horse is typically leased by one or two participants. This creates consistency, builds relationships, and ensures every horse receives steady care and attention.
In addition, horses participate in farm programs at least one day each week, allowing them to engage with the broader community and continue developing as partners.
Programs and Actvities
Our horses support a wide range of programs across The Community Farm:

The goal of the TCF goat herd is to develop and maintain a well-balanced homestead goat that works well for small farms, educational programs, and community agriculture.
Our horses support a wide range of programs across The Community Farm:
- Equine-assisted wellness programs
- Camps and youth programs
- PATH programs
- Dressage and eventing
- Trail riding and outdoor education
- 4-H horse projects
- IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) team
- Horsemanship and companionship-based learning
Participants are encouraged to explore different disciplines and experiences. This keeps both horse and rider engaged, learning, and well-rounded.
Learning Through Horses
Horses offer something few other teachers can.
They respond honestly. They ask for clarity, consistency, and awareness. In return, they help people develop confidence, emotional regulation, responsibility, and trust.
Whether someone is grooming a horse, working on the ground, or riding, the lessons often reach far beyond the arena.

Continued Learning and Partnerships

The farm regularly hosts experienced trainers and clinicians, providing riders with opportunities to expand their skills and perspectives.
We are also proud to partner with TrailMeister, helping riders build confidence, develop practical safety skills, and experience the value of getting outside and putting those skills to use. The goal is simple—help people step beyond their comfort zone and become capable, thoughtful horsemen and women.
