The PATH Therapeutic Riding Program at The Community Farm provides safe, structured horseback riding experiences designed to support individuals with cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities.
This program blends horsemanship with purposeful instruction, creating opportunities for growth, confidence, and connection—both in and out of the saddle.
What Is Therapeutic Riding?
Therapeutic riding uses the movement of the horse and the relationship between horse and rider to support physical, emotional, and developmental progress.
Riders benefit from:
- Improved balance, coordination, and strength
- Increased confidence and independence
- Emotional regulation and focus
- Connection and communication skills
Each session is designed to meet the rider where they are, with goals tailored to their individual needs.
Program Structure
Lessons are offered in both group and private formats, depending on the needs of the participant.
Every session is:
- Structured but adaptable
- Focused on safety and consistency
- Built around clear, achievable goals
Whether mounted or working from the ground, participants are actively engaged in the process of learning and interacting with the horse.
Instruction and Safety
All therapeutic riding sessions are led by a PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, ensuring a high standard of care, safety, and professionalism.
The program emphasizes:
- Proper horse handling and safety practices
- Clear communication between horse and rider
- A calm, supportive learning environment
- Respect for both horse and participant
Our horses are carefully selected and trained for this work, providing steady, reliable partners for each rider.
Horses as Partners
In this program, horses are more than part of the activity—they are part of the learning.
Their movement, sensitivity, and responsiveness help riders:
- Develop body awareness
- Practice emotional control
- Build trust and confidence
Many riders find that the connection with the horse becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their experience.
Who the Program Serves

No prior horse experience is required.
