Where goats teach responsibility, build community, and bring people together

The goats at The Community Farm (TCF) are one of the most active and engaging livestock programs on the farm. They support youth education, community outreach, sustainable land management, and hands-on agricultural learning.
From 4-H projects and dairy production to grazing services and goat yoga, the TCF Goat Program helps people connect with animals, agriculture, and each other.
About the Program
A herd with a purpose
The goats at The Community Farm serve many roles across the farm and community. They are part of youth education programs, breeding and dairy projects, fiber production, and utility goat training, where goats learn to navigate obstacle courses and work closely with their handlers.

Through these activities, participants learn responsibility, animal care, agriculture, and entrepreneurship while developing confidence and practical skills.
Goats are particularly well suited for learning programs because they are intelligent, curious, and highly interactive animals that enjoy working with people.
Our Breeding Goal
Developing the ideal homestead goat

The goal of the TCF goat herd is to develop and maintain a well-balanced homestead goat that works well for small farms, educational programs, and community agriculture.
Our ideal goat is:
- Friendly and easy to handle
- Hardy and adaptable
- An easy kidder (gives birth easily)
- A dependable but moderate milk producer
- Fiber producing, with fleece that can be shorn annually but may also self-shed if needed
To achieve this balance, we utilize a combination of several breeds:
Nubian – known for excellent milk production and wonderful personalities
Nigerian Dwarf – friendly, hardy, and adaptable
La Mancha – dependable dairy production
Angora – valued for fiber quality
This blend helps produce goats that are versatile, productive, and easy to manage, making them ideal for both homesteads and educational programs.
Community Impact
What the goats help make possible
The goats participate in many community and educational activities throughout the year.
Municipal Vegetation Mitigation

Goats provide natural vegetation management for communities, helping reduce fire risk and manage invasive plants.
Goat Yoga
In partnership with the Arvada Goat Yoga Company, baby goats participate in fun and memorable wellness experiences.
Educational Farm Programs
Students and visitors learn about agriculture, livestock care, sustainability, and farm systems.
Petting Zoos & Outreach
Goats are often ambassadors of the farm at community events and educational visits.
