Where rabbits help children learn, communities connect, and wellness grows

The rabbits at The Community Farm are more than animals on the farm. They are an important and beloved part of programs that support youth learning, literacy, outreach, fiber education, and therapeutic interaction.
From 4-H projects to Books with Bunnies, the TCF Rabbit Program creates meaningful opportunities for connection, education, and care.
A small animal program with a big impact
The TCF Rabbit Program is managed by Susan Fudge Erickson and supports a wide range of activities at The Community Farm. The rabbits are part of 4-H learning, literacy events, community outreach, fiber production, and wellness programming.
From the beginning, the rabbit program has been built on the idea that animals can help teach, comfort, and connect people.
Our very first rabbits helped lay the foundation for the program:
- Stuart Little — a Continental Giant buck
- Angie — an Angora rabbit
- Borris — a Rex rabbit
- Clover — a Holland Lop
Over time, the program has also welcomed rabbits from local shelters that were considered unadoptable. At TCF, those rabbits were given a safe and meaningful home while becoming part of educational and outreach activities that benefit the wider community.

Today, many of our rabbits are a cross between Continental Giant and Angora breeds. This combination produces rabbits that are friendly, hardy, and able to produce usable fiber while being easier to care for than full Angora rabbits. They are especially well suited for youth learning and farm interaction.
